3 Air Pollution Regulation In the last few decades, especially after the milestone Clean Air Act in the US, air pollution has been regulated all over the world through a series of laws and regulations. The European commission has developed a series of framework directives for controlling ambient air pollution and monitoring concentrations. This page is a list of environmental books.. In this context they are notable books that describe, as a major theme, the effects of human activity on the environment.

Ultimately, the control of pollution involves a number of social decisions: 1) not to allow the escape into the environment of substances or forms of energy that are harmful to life, 2) to contain and recycle those substances that could be harmful if released into the environment in excessive quantities, and 3) not to release into the environment substances that persist and are toxic to living things. Land pollution is a great concern for many parts of the world. The Earth's surface is contaminated by industrial waste, soil pollution caused by pesticides, and decomposable waste such as glass, cloth, plastic, paper, and metal. The control of land pollution is .

Some of the measures to control air pollution are as follows: 1. The forest cover should be protected by restricting deforestation and through adoption of afforestation programmes. Trees are the best controllers of air pollution. It is an accepted fact that at least 33 per cent of the land area should remain under forest/tree cover. . Total emissions for the two firms thus equal 1, tons per month. The pollution control authority decides to cut this in half and orders each firm to reduce its emissions to tons per month, for a total reduction of tons. This is a command-and-control regulation because it specifies the amount of reduction each firm must make.
